TLA Medicolegal is thrilled to be partnering with the British Trauma Society (BTS), Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, the Scottish Trauma Network and the Central Legal Office Scotland to sponsor the British Trauma Society Medicolegal Symposium.

The event takes place on 18 November 2025 at the University of Edinburgh.

This specialised one-day symposium brings together medical professionals, expert witnesses, and legal practitioners for essential knowledge sharing and professional development, addressing critical areas where trauma medicine intersects with legal proceedings.

The British Trauma Society, established in 1988 as the UK's longest-standing multidisciplinary trauma charity, continues its mission to support education, research and training for all those involved in trauma care.

The programme features sessions on medical negligence law updates, the role of doctors in Coroner's Courts, and practical guidance on managing medicolegal practices effectively.

Speakers include Darren Deery, Head of Clinical Negligence Scotland at Irwin Mitchell, Rebecca Whiticar, Consultant Emergency Medicine and Medical Examiner NHS Wales, and Ansar Mahmood, Consultant Surgeon in Orthopaedic Trauma at Queen Elizabeth Birmingham.

Stuart Matthews, TLA Director and Co-founder and former BTS President, will present "How to avoid being sued," drawing on his extensive experience as both a Consultant Trauma Surgeon and medicolegal expert.

Fiona Morrison, TLA Director and Co-founder, alongside Senior Case Manager Alice Jones, will lead an interactive session on "Managing a Medicolegal practice."

Fiona says: "The intersection of trauma medicine and medicolegal practice requires both clinical excellence and thorough understanding of legal processes. This symposium provides an invaluable platform for medical professionals to enhance their expertise while networking with peers who share similar challenges and experiences."

TLA is is sponsoring a hot buffet lunch for all attendees, facilitating networking among delegates. As the only consultancy providing comprehensive medicolegal management services for medical professionals, TLA manages complex administrative and financial challenges so medical experts can focus solely on their professional reporting and medical expertise.

The British Trauma Society Medicolegal Symposium takes place at St Leonard's Hall, University of Edinburgh, on 18 November 2025, running from 10:30am to 4:45pm. Members £40, non-members £50.
