Each of these distinguished professionals underscored the significance of Dame Linda's contributions to the healthcare sector during one of the most challenging periods in recent history.

A Challenge Coin, a small medallion bearing an organisation's insignia, is traditionally given to prove membership and enhance morale. Historically, these coins have been presented by unit commanders to recognise special achievements.

The tradition dates back to the Roman Empire, when soldiers were rewarded with coins for their valour in battle. In modern times, the British Army and various military medical units have adopted this tradition, often exchanging coins to commemorate visits and achievements.

Dame Linda Pollard's receipt of the Challenge Coin is a testament to her inspiring leadership. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic her guidance and decisions were pivotal in navigating the healthcare system through unprecedented challenges. Her dedication and resilience have left an indelible mark on the community, making her a deserving recipient of this esteemed honour.

The presentation of the Challenge Coin not only celebrated her past achievements but also symbolised the ongoing commitment to excellence and leadership within the medical community.

Dame Linda Pollard said: “I was truly honoured and humbled to receive this award and to be recognised alongside the team for the work we undertook during the Covid Pandemic.

“What a great reminder of the amazing teamwork and collaboration which we undertook in one of the most challenging periods of our time here at the Trust.”
