Consultant Spotlight: Mr Charalampos (Haris) Kartsios

Dr Kartsios is one of TLA Medicolegal’s Expert Haematologists.  He has worked with TLA for six months and has already established himself as a key Expert in his field, working on a number of high-profile cases.

 

Dr Kartsios was born in Thessalonica, Greece in 1971.  He graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessalonica 1995 and finished his specialisation in Haematology in 2005.

 

In 2007 he was awarded the Hellenic Society of Haematology Scholarship and came to the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (HMDS) Leeds, UK, where he excelled his clinical and laboratory skills under Prof Peter Hillmen and Dr Andy Rawstron.  Subsequently, Dr Kartsios returned to Greece where he worked until 2011 as a Consultant Haematologist at Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki.

 

In 2011 Dr Kartsios joined the Heart of England (now part of University Hospitals Birmingham) NHS Foundation Trust.  From 2013-2018 he was the Clinical Lead for Laboratory Haematology and from 2019-2021 the Lead of the Trust’s Anticoagulation Service.  His main professional interests are thrombosis/anticoagulation, general, obstetric and diagnostic haematology.

 

Dr Kartsios has 30 publications in peer review journals and is a member of the Faculty of Expert Witnesses (FEW) for Doctors.  He started writing haematology medicolegal reports in 2018 and currently produces 24-30 reports per year.
